Ian McGarrie a.k.a. Chief, graduated from Elmhurst College in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in Jazz Studies. His education includes studying at both Harper College and Berklee College of Music.
He has been playing for over twenty-three years with nearly 15 years of professional performing and teaching experience. Ian performs live all over the Chicago metropolitan area and the Midwest in many different types of musical settings. Currently Ian is teaching saxophone, clarinet and flute at Harper College in Palatine, Glenbard North and South High School in Carol Stream and Glen Ellyn and at Christian Liberty School in Arlington Heights.
Ian has had the pleasure of performing with musicians and groups such as Mark Colby, Frank Caruso, Bob Rummage, Ken Haebich, Doug Beach, Patti Austin, Bob Mintzer, Steve Weiss, Bobby Shew, Dennis DiBlasio, Todd Rungren, Kristin Chenoweth, The Rockford Symphony Orchestra and Jeff Hedbergs C11. He has performed in the Perugia Jazz Festival in Italy, the Viene Jazz Festival in France, the Birmingham Jazz Festival and the Wigan Jazz Festival in England, the Zagreb Jazz Festival in Croatia, as well as done tours in the countries of Scotland, Wales, England, Croatia, Austria and Chile.
